Alpacas help bring joy to seniors in České Budějovice
Cuddling animals is said to release endorphins. Walks with the alpacas Růženka, Běluška, and Jůlinka are meant to bring pleasure to seniors. The city approved the acceptance of a financial gift of 27,000 CZK from the public fundraiser Ježíškova vnoučata. This gift was given to the city by the Czech Radio Foundation for the Máj Senior Home. The money will help support the project "Animal Visits in the Senior Home." The director of the social facility, Petra Zimmelová, believes that alpacas will bring calm and joy to the clients. They will thus become a regular part of life in the home.
“Specifically, this is about llama therapy, where alpacas play the main role. According to experts, petting and cuddling these friendly animals releases endorphins, which promote feelings of happiness and well-being, and even a walk with an alpaca can be a great pleasure. These kind and good-natured animals, with their attentive, respectful, and slightly curious demeanor, can create a friendly atmosphere and have been proven to engage even people who otherwise do not show much interest in any activities.” said the mayor of České Budějovice, Dagmar Škodová Parmová.
